Mark has 27 years of experience in the construction and development field. His passion for the construction business can be traced back to the age of five when he first held a hammer. Mark was raised in the construction business. His father owned and operated a prominent construction business in Grand Junction, Colorado since 1972. After college, partnered with his father at Folkestad Construction. Mark started the Steamboat Springs office in 1992 and has built many custom homes and commercial projects in the Yampa Valley.
Mark says, “Building is like art, each building has its own expression. A good general contractor will learn the taste and desires of clients and use his team’s creativity to build the client’s dream home.”
Using a team approach in building, Mark has directed some of the finest craftsmen in the valley while building clients’ homes. Mark provides leadership, creativity, attention to detail and sound business practices. Mark has high standards and believes that every person involved in the process is extremely important to the quality of the final project. Mark has experience in commercial and subdivision projects but his passion is custom homes and it is this passion that separates him from other builders. Mark is very involved in every aspect of the home; starting from the conceptual concept to the day the clients move in. Mark’s creativity and designer attributes are beneficial to clients in material selections and the overall design of the structure. Working side by side with the clients is why the end product reflects the vision of the clients. One of the benefits is the friendships that develop during the construction process. Mark has had the good fortune of developing life long friends from all over the country.
Mark knew that someday he would be a general contractor. Mark adopted his father’s philosophy that a good, reputable general contractor has to be well versed in all aspects of the business. He set out to learn the construction trades by working after school under the direction of his father’s key tradesman. Mark took every opportunity to learn from his father in addition to attending Mesa State College to learn the business side of general contracting.
Mark is proud to have his childhood friend and stepbrother as his business partner. From the time they where young they always dreamed of being in business together. Childhood dreams came true in 1996 when Craig moved to Steamboat to merge the two companies together. The benefit of having two principles that care deeply about the satisfaction of their clients makes working together an enjoyable experience. We draw from each others strengths to run a successful construction company.
Mark feels so blessed to work in a creative field he loves. There are no words to describe the satisfaction from seeing the smiles and sometimes the tears of joy when handing over the keys to a beautiful new home. Mark takes great pride in knowing that he exceeds his client’s expectations and enjoys a strong following of repeat business.
